1. What is Cystic fibrosis(CF)

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems, caused by mutations in the CFTR gene located on chromosome This gene encodes a protein called cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator, which is responsible for regulating the movement of salt and water across epithelial cell membranes. The defective CFTR protein results in the production of thick, sticky mucus in various organs, leading to a range of health complications. CF is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, meaning that an individual must inherit two copies of the mutated gene, one from each parent, to develop the disease. If a person inherits only one copy of the mutated gene, they are considered a carrier and typically do not exhibit symptoms.
