Noah Webster produced his first dictionary of American English in 1806.

He put many of his unusual spellings in his dictionary.

He also added over five thousand new American words that were unknown in England.

Many people were unhappy with Webster`s new spellings and new words so in his second dictionary of 1828 he changed many spellings to their old forms.
